Here’s a great music video for Stay byTayala filmed by ShootJMoore in Hull.
Hull band Tayala are rising stars of the City of Culture. I’ve already featured their collaboration with Nineties Boy and Endoflevelbaddie. Now they deserve a recommendation of their own. Every time I’ve seen them in an intimate gig like The Sesh or on an open air festival stage. They stand out and I recommend that any venue or event should book them and put them high on the bill. Contact the band by email: info@tayala.com.
KARI is an outstanding composer and performer, with bags of talent. Her music transcends boundaries and crosses genres, surely she is destined for international success.
KARI aka Kari Amirian is in the final steps of producing her second album. She has co-produced it with the very gifted Jon Headly from Modo Stare.
When KARI played live in session on my BBC Introducing West Yorkshire show. It was clear that I was in the presence of greatness. A classically educated musician, with a unique contemporary style, strong indie-pop vocal melodies and minimal, experimental, electronic soundscapes. Kari’s music is deeply thoughtful, beautiful and spiritual, with outstanding arrangements and orchestration.
Today’s recommendation is Ming City Rockers one of the very few bands to grab my attention from Immingham in Lincolnshire. The band consists of a scruffy bunch of rock’n’rollers named; Clancy Jones on Rhythm Guitar, vocals & harmonica, Morely Adams on Lead Guitar & backing vocals, Doc Ashton on the drums and Jakki Walsh on bass guitar.
They are definitely a band you have to see live to fully appreciate their craft. I first saw them several months ago at The Sesh which is a long standing and outstanding new bands night in Hull, just over the bridge for the band (you should check it out on a Tuesday night, it’s free). They blew me away with their on stage energy. They have an an old fashioned punk style, but they have elements in it that are unmistakably individual to them.
I’ve been playing them since on the BBC Introducing Humberside, but unfortunately there has only been a couple of tracks that Ofcom rules allow us to play onair (language issues & rudeez). So this one is just for my blog:
Baddie has hand picked a band of masked stage masters, in the shape of: MC/Hypeman ‘PLAYER ONE’(Ghana/London), VJ ‘EYESAW’(Leeds) and DRUM BOSS ‘BEATEMUP'(Gotham), they are a force to be reckoned with. Together they provide an incredible amount of energy on stage; turning an unassuming crowd of strangers into a seething mass of limb flailing, head nodding, foot stomping, shape throwing fans wherever they go! At Galtres they also had live bass and trumpet to delight the crowds.
Hayley Gaftarnick, is one of Leeds finest solo performers. An independent singer/song-writer who consistently creates outstanding music
Hayley’s debut single ‘Turn To Stone’ has gained her a lot of well deserved credit. The song is about unrequited love. Which is something I’m surprised she has experience of as everyone who hears her is instantly hooked.
Here’s Hayley’s ‘live’ video version of ‘Turn To Stone’
The single is from her album ‘Circles’. Featuring some of Yorkshires finest musicians, Rosie Doonan (Rose and The Howling North/Cuckoo Records/Cry Baby Cry), JonnyTheFirth(Cry Baby Cry/Cuckoo Records), Adam Richards(Spirit of John/Xray Cat Trio/Cuckoo Records, Sam Lawrence(Wilful Missing/Gary Stewart/Rosie Doonan), Nici Todd(Cry Baby Cry/Cuckoo Records), Samuel Thornton(Louis, Louis, Louis) Richard Collie(Hotfoot Powder/Louis,Louis,Louis), Simon Beddoe(Submotion Orchestra/Haggis Horns), Lee Smith(Middleman/Greenmount Studio’s), Jamie Lockhart (Mi, Mye./Greenmount Studio’s)
I’m consolidating my blogs into this one. So here’s a quick run of recommendations that I have posted before elsewhere. Just to get it all on one page from now on.
