I also have Yorkshire Gig Guide Awards for Outstanding Media and Outstanding Contribution To Music. Plus a local government Community Pioneer Award, a Fuji photography prize and a short film prize.

Camera: I have produced & location managed for MTV, BBCi & BBC2 and taught Camera Skills for BBC Learn Xpress and at many schools and further education centres. I have made over 70 short films which have been shown by the BBC and presented BBC documentary shorts which have won prizes at a short film festival. My music video productions have featured on MTV and VH1. I also work as a Photographer at events like Leeds Festival & Womad Festival for over 20 years. I curate photography exhibitions and I’m Creative Director of HIP Photography Festival.

Social Education: I’ve worked in community arts and social education since 1992. I studied Youth & Community Work at The University of Humberside. This lead to work with the Youth Service, The Warren, Armstrong Learning, Volcom, numerous detached street work teams and now with Artists in Hull where I am CEO of The Creative and Cultural Company. For over 20 years I have enjoyed working for numerous organizations; developing musical talent, coaching drummers, facilitating workshops, counselling, managing youth projects, exhibitions and events, chairing panels at conferences and promoting sustainability in the arts. This has been rewarded with a Community Pioneer Award from Hull City Council.

Folk Roots: I’ve been playing drums since I was a little lad, having been born into a family tree of  folk artists. I did my first gigs in my fathers Irish Ceilidh band starting on Bodhran. I saved up for my first kit by playing at folk festivals & busking. I come from a long line of much better musicians than me. My Great Grandfather was a drum maker and received silver drum sticks for his service as a military drummer. His band won the All Ireland Games. I have a good tradition to maintain and a lot to aspire to. I maintain my folk music involvement as Patron of Hull Folk & Maritime Festival and by performing with Celtarabia. Here’s a link to my families folk music page on Facebook: Raw Family Folk

Drums: I’ve been a session drummer for many years. I’m a JHS, RhythmTech & Regal Tip “Keyplayer” and Dream Cymbals endorser. My Drumming highlights include: playing tours and festival gigs including Glastonbury, playing Djembe with Gambian band Roots Manding in West Africa, making a dub album with legendary lyricist Benjamin Zephaniah, an acoustic album with award winning artist Emma Rugg, a chart topping country album with Glenn Williams and many more. I am lucky enough to have been profiled in Geoff Nicholls (Rhythm Magazine) book “Banging On”, plus Gear Magazine, Music Week and more. I’ve played countless radio sessions & had BBC Radio 1 air play. I have also had the honour of being profiled by the late great John Peel on Channel 4 and have not only played on, but also directed videos on MTV. I am currently gigging with legendary world dance fusion band Celtarabia, Duo The Verne Duels & on some very enjoyable electro hip hop with endoflevelbaddie.
